Being photographed before or after (or sometimes even during) a workout comes with the territory when you’re a celebrity. Paparazzi pretty much camp outside of SoulCycle and Equinox in New York and Los Angeles, so it’s no wonder that A-listers always seem to have the perfect workout gear for the occasion. That said, they still need to actually exercise. Consequently, the most stylish among them have perfected the art of the fine balance that is a functional, stylish workout outfit.
On the flip side, we couldn’t help but notice there are certain items that you’d never see a stylish celebrity wear to the gym, for one reason or another. Some of them would hinder their workout and some would hinder their style. Intrigued?

It’s important to be able to see your form while you’re exercising, and you might as well show off the figure that you’ve worked so hard for at the gym! Celebs love crop tops, sports bras, and slim racerback tanks for this reason.

Similar to our remarks about baggy tops, baggy sweatpants are a no-go for celebs, as a pair of sleek leggings is a much more flattering, on-trend, yet equally comfortable look.

You may have noticed by now that celebs always use their handbags to dress up a workout outfit. A handbag as opposed to a big gym bag goes a long way in making a workout outfit appropriate for brunch or errands post-gym.

Celebrities know that wearing something skimpy and revealing will ultimately hinder their workout. To show some skin while maintaining their modesty, they turn to styling tricks like wearing high-waisted leggings when they’d prefer a sports bra without a top over it.

Celebs tend to gravitate toward dark, solid-colored leggings and those with subtle prints or color-blocking as opposed to light-colored ones, which aren’t the most flattering or practical. That said, we have been seeing white leggings cropping up on various retailers’ sites, so time will tell whether or not this becomes a future trend.
