If you were to survey fashion editors about their ultimate luxury buys, you'd likely get a fairly varied result. Whilst some covet The Row's Margaux bag, others only have eyes for a Birkin, and though some are besotted by fresh-on-the-scene designers, others are loyal to the heritage brands that paved the way.
There is, however, one thing that I believe you would find they agree on. I predict that every one of them would tell you they are coveting a pair of flats from French fashion house Alaïa.
Alaïa has been a fashion favourite since its conception in 1964, but it has never before garnered quite this much attention. Catching on to the popularity of ballet flats over the past year, Alaïa stepped things up a notch with its crystal, mesh and perforated styles, which rapidly became the hottest flats around. Worn by several of the most fashion-forward stars, the super-stylish flats quickly transcended other popular iterations to become the footwear to be seen in.
With a list of owners that reads as a who's who of the fashion and celebrity worlds, the now-cult shoes have made their way into the wardrobes of Dakota Johnson, Dua Lipa and Jennifer Lawrence, to name but a few.
As we begin to move out of winter and towards spring, it's harder to resist the growing appeal of these breezy styles. Whilst my heart is bound to the crystal, mesh and perforated flats in particular, Alaïa hosts a strong footwear collection that also includes knee-high boots and towering heels.
