I'm an Accessory Expert—6 Trends I Can't Wait to Get My Hands on This Summer
It's true. Accessories are my kryptonite and also my job. "Do something you love," they said. Thus my workdays consist of combing through runway shows, social media, and retailers for the best of what's happening now and what's to come in the world of accessories. Because of that, denying myself a new handbag or pair of sunglasses is no easy feat, but since I already have a robust personal collection, I can't exactly say yes to every new find I stumble across. Luckily, knowing it might land in one of your closets is the next best prize.
This summer, the It accessories range from sophisticated minimalism to kitschy maximalism—with a lot in between. Every runway trend, from elevated flip-flops to jelly sandals, is included. The latter made a buzzy appearance in The Row's latest pre-fall collection, while the former showed face at Bally's F/W 24 show. But no fear, your classic basket bags, colorful sneakers, and mirrored lenses continue to make the season's leaderboard as well.
Ahead, I've curated the six must-have accessory trends of the summer along with styling notes and shoppable options galore.
1. Flip-Flops With Hardware
Every summer there's an update to your classic flip-flop, and this season, it's a bold hardware accent. A likely continuation of the sculptural jewelry trend, this is like jewelry for your shoes.
2. Basket Bags
Basket bags will never get old in the warmer months. Various silhouettes keep the mainstay feeling refreshed, including Staud's Tackle Box bag and Mango's crescent bag.
3. Jellies
The summer's resident "ugly" shoe trend is anything jelly. Textured jelly flats in bright colors finish off even the most serious suiting looks.
4. Bag Charms
Bag charms have become one of the internet's hottest current trends after appearances on the runways, including Coach's, Miu Miu's, and Fendi's. Kitschy bag appendages can upgrade your favorite old bag or decorate a brand-new one.
5. Colorful Sneakers
Vivid hues are a summer staple, and sneakers are no exception. Unexpected contrasting color combinations are splashed across retro styles, adding a fresh take. Pair these statement sneakers with anything from a white sundress to a tonal look.
6. Mirrored Lenses
See in high-vis with mirrored lenses. The futuristic trend comes in all shapes from sporty shields to '90s-style round frames. Invest in a playful pair from Miu Miu or snag an affordable alt from Urban Outfitters.
