I'm the Designer of Nordstrom's New Brand, and I Think These Trends Will Be Big

The collection of brands in the Nordstrom Made curation is often on our shopping lists, and the retailer recently launched a new label in the offering. Say hello to Open Edit. The range of clothing and accessories features trend-forward pieces that have the potential to become go-to's in any wardrobe. We’re talking everything from oversize button-down shirts to modern-tailoring pieces to next-level basics.
We had the chance to catch up with one of the lead designers on the line, Shannon Reed. We wanted to gain further insight into some of the fresh trends that inspired her and continue to inspire her as we enter the new season. "As I fantasize about my early fall wardrobe desires, I want the pieces to be special, and I want them to bring me joy," she said. "With the spirit of optimism many of us are feeling, I’m looking for color and chic, sculptural staples that can be mixed, matched, and effortlessly worn together."
With that in mind, keep scrolling to uncover the pieces that Reed thinks will be big this season. There’s also inspired shopping picks sprinkled throughout.
Oversize Blouse
"One of my favorite trends for the season is the oversize shirt. The styling possibilities are infinite. The key to completing the look is balancing it with a slimmer-fit pant or chic bike short."
Updated Knit Pants
"We all spent last year living in our favorite leggings and joggers. I’m switching it up for something fresh."
Statement Dress
"When we speak of joyful optimism and romance, all the stars align to a statement dress. Wear one with your favorite pair of sneakers for a more casual look, or pair with a colorful kitten heel."
New Matching Set
"The new matching set is emerging beyond loungewear with the versatile sweater-knit duo. This is an effortlessly chic look, easily dressed up or down."
Strong Tailoring
"Truth be told, this is probably my favorite Open Edit style for the season. I’ve never met a blazer I didn’t love, this one is no exception. As we all start to imagine life back to work, this could be a seasonless contender. What I love about this sleeveless style is that you can layer a bralette under it for date night or a long-sleeve blouse for work."
Statement Earrings
"Wear this knockout modern earring with all of your looks."
