J.Law and Katie Holmes Just Wore the Winter Boots That Go With All Trousers

As the winter chill sets in, there comes a time when we must cast aside even our warmest maxi skirts and dresses in favour of trousers that offer full coverage and that much-needed additional snugness. Unless you're a trouser person through and through, you might find that styling them in the winter is tricker than you feel it should be. Different from assembling an outfit around jeans—which always look chic with colourful trainers or smart loafers—trousers have a built-in formal vibe, meaning that the wrong shoe choice can have your outfit looking overly prim, or simply mismatched. Well, I'm happy to share that in my time as a fashion editor, I've picked up a few tips and tricks to make sure your trouser outfits always look streamlined, considered and above all, chic, starting with a simple shoe pairing that has already been signed off by style icons Jennifer Lawrence and Katie Holmes.
Above all other shoe shapes, I maintain that almond-toe boots are the ultimate sidekick to a great pair of trousers. The softer, slightly rounded shape helps to elongate the leg in a natural way that never looks harsh. Whether styling a pair of flowing, wide-leg trousers or a straight-leg style, an almond-toe shoe pairing—be it a heeled boot or flat mary jane—is my ultimate go-to for trousers over the winter months. Styled to perfection by actress Jennifer Lawrence, who wore a pair of brown almond-toe boots with grey wool trousers, a white tee and a soft brown scarf, Lawrence's shoe pairing worked perfectly with the rest of her outfit, complementing its casual nature.
Fellow stylish celeb Katie Holmes chose a tonal trouser and shoe pairing, opting for white wide-leg trousers and complementary white almond-toe boots. Creating a cohesive look through the use of clever styling, Holmes was left to play around with a bright mint-green jumper in a wearable and relaxed way.
Trust me when I tell you that this is the only shoe silhouette you need to get you through the winter months. Whether you're keen to shop some new winter boots or eager to try the mary-jane flats trend, shop my edit of the best almond-toe boots and shoes below.

In my opinion, Chelsea boots are a winter-weather must-have. Pair with fuzzy socks and stay warm in style.
Go for a pair of knee-high boots if your style is a little more elegant. Wear underneath wide-leg trousers for extra warmth or style with a cosy knitted dress.
Dress these up with some embellished tights and enjoy your party season in comfort and style.
Brown is a major colour this season. Tick off two trends at once with these boots.
