I love a self-care moment, and I always ask for my colleagues’ expert recommendations for the best spots to pamper myself. So when multiple editors told me to get a massage at The Now during my most recent trip to L.A., I immediately booked an appointment at the West Hollywood boutique. The space is carefully designed to invoke a sense of peace, mindfulness, and of course, presence in the now. I had the most relaxing massage of my life with gua sha, hemp calm balm, and deep-tissue enhancements. Afterward, I met Gara Post, the woman behind the self-care sanctuary. She was glowing with a capital G (a testament to the power of her routine), so you bet I listened intently as she gave me the rundown on her business and daily practices.
Post grew up in NYC and is now a busy entrepreneur and working mother in L.A. Massages have always been her favorite way to unplug and relax. "The positive effects this practice has had on my mind, body, and spirit have shown me how important self-care is and have served as the inspiration behind The Now,” she told me. She also credits meditation and breath work for helping her succeed in business. "They’ve taught me that you can’t control what life brings, but you can manage how you react and respond,” she said. "Learning to be flexible and open to new ways of executing and evolving has helped us scale the brand.”
When it comes to Post’s daily nonnegotiables, she starts with a solid morning routine: "Every morning, I prioritize exercise, meditation, and practices like dry-brushing or contrast therapy. This helps set my day up for success.” For a midday reset, she does an intention deck reading and a palo santo cleanse to keep her energy balanced. And her evenings are all about staying grounded and grateful—she spends time with her family and dogs and finishes off the day by journaling, reading, or meditating.
