I Live in Basics, But I Keep Talking About These 5 Trends That Are Very Fashion-Person Coded

Basics make up a hefty chunk of my wardrobe given that they're the foundational elements to my everyday looks. I'm referring to white shirts, classic sneakers, straight-leg jeans, and relaxed knits. That said, I also like to test out trends. (I am a fashion editor, after all.) I, of course, adore sharing the latest with you, dear readers, and my friends and family members who ask for recommendations. Well, there are currently five trendier picks that are on my mind, and I legit can't stop talking them about when someone wants shopping advice.
Below, I'm sharing the spring and summer trends that are very fashion-person coded. Style-setters are wearing them on repeat and certainly will continue wearing them in the months ahead. I've been talking about jelly shoes nonstop (ahem, in my last two Retail Therapy newsletters). This playful trend continues to gain momentum, and a variety of labels are offering cool iterations, from flats to sandals to heels.
Lace-Trim Skirts
No, classic slip skirts aren't out, but those with lace trims are highly relevant to lean into the romantic-dressing trend.
Pedal Pushers/Capri Pants
As we highlighted recently, pedal pushers are back for spring and summer 2025 as an alternative to shorts. They're so versatile and can be styled with everything from a button-down shirt and jacket to just a simple tank.
Low-Profile Retro Sneakers
I love my classic white sneakers, but I've been so into the low-profile, 1970s-esque retro sneakers that are dominating the fashion scene. My vibe is teaming them with long, baggy pants for a modern look.
Technical Jackets
If you're looking for a lighter layer for chillier days and nights, it's all about the sporty technical jacket—often in a nylon fabric. I've been wearing one with a higher collar on repeat.
