3 Wearable Spring Trends My Gen Z Coworker Convinced Me to Try

In true millennial fashion, I spend my days aspiring to be as cool as my Gen Z coworkers. I admire their commitment to self-expression and experimentation—it's something I keep in mind when getting dressed in the morning. Whether it's the latest social media trend or fashion aesthetic, Gen Z sets the tone for what's relevant season after season. Now that spring is in full swing (my allergies are proof), I reached out to my Gen Z colleague, fashion editor Sierra Mayhew, to ask for her top three trends of the season. Not only were her picks completely wearable, but everything can be found at Nordstrom (with most costing less than $100). On '70s-inspired style: "This look taps right into the '70s redux happening right now, championing effortless style by incorporating elements like denim, flowy blouses, and anything suede. When styling this look, I started with the denim shorts because they felt like the anchor, then layered in that slightly sheer blouse for softness, and added the jacket for contrast. The accessories pull it all together, bringing the 70s to the present." — Sierra Mayhew, fashion editor

On Western trends and how not to cosplay a cowboy: "The Western aesthetic has definitely reached its peak, with years on the map as a top fashion trend. For me, it's less about cowboy cosplay and more about the spirit of adventure. The shirt-jeans-boots combo is foolproof at any age. You could also just pair the shirt with a nice skirt and a classic brown boot—it reads as polished but on-trend. For quite some time, I have relied on a Canadian tuxedo for an easy outfit to just throw on and go. I made this one feel special with a Western-inspired cotton shirt instead of literal denim on denim, and that added a fresh contrast to one of my go-to uniforms." — Mayhew

On her go-to look for festival season: "This leans into the boho trend Gen Z is bringing back for festival season. Prairie dresses, raffia accessories, and cowboy boots are making a quiet comeback and are fun looks to dance in at center stage. I'd wear this to an outdoor concert, a weekend flea market, or even a beachy getaway. It's giving carefree but styled. To make this look work for all generations, I recommend pairing one or two playful elements—like the boots or a woven bag—with more timeless silhouettes. The key is balance. A floral cotton dress with a raffia tote works on anyone." — Mayhew
