I'm a Modest Dresser—Here Are the Standout Pieces I've Seen This Month

The Modest Dresser is a monthly series in which Who What Wear UK junior branded content editor and modest dresser Humaa Hussain shares the pieces that have caught her eye, along with styling tips to help you create looks that prove that modest doesn't have to equal boring.

I've been writing this column for a while now, and if there's one thing I've learned about dressing modestly, it's that it doesn't mean sacrificing excitement when it comes to getting dressed—especially when the seasons start to shift. Right now, we're in that sweet spot where the days are noticeably warmer, and the last traces of my winter wardrobe are being quietly packed away (read: shoved to the back of the rail). I've finally let go of the jumpers and cardigans that lingered through the first few days of spring and am ready to fully embrace the breezy, light layering energy this time of year calls for.

And just in time, too—because I'm heading to Paris for a long, stretched-out weekend, and my suitcase is looking distinctly skirt-heavy. I've been inching into my skirt era, which feels like a natural progression from my earlier obsession with maxi dresses. That love story only really started a couple of years ago, once modest maxi options stopped feeling like an afterthought. Since then, high-street and designer brands have seriously upped their game, and I've leaned hard into that elegant, lady-who-lunches aesthetic—especially in the form of full-length skirts. Think structured denim, soft cottons, silky finishes, and versatile neutrals that can be dressed up or down. It's the kind of wardrobe shift that makes getting dressed fun again.

While we're here, I have to mention another big shift for me: colour. If you've seen my wardrobe, you know it's basically a black–white–navy mood board, with the occasional olive or khaki moment (though honestly, some would argue khaki doesn't even count as colour). But this spring's pastel palette—particularly butter yellow and powdery pink—is really speaking to me. These softer tones still feel polished but add just enough lift to keep things feeling fresh. I've been experimenting through accessories and light layering, and it's honestly making my usual neutrals feel more elevated. Growth, right?

Here are the 15 pieces I'm currently eyeing—some coming to Paris with me, some staying on my wish list a little longer—but all playing into this new season of style:
