While this isn't the new year we had anticipated, or could even predict, take some comfort in the fact that, despite the weirdness of the world, you can rely on fashion to give you some much-needed distraction. Right now, we're very much looking forward to the spring/summer trends and trying to forget that we're currently in the middle of winter. Here's the thing: There is so much to get excited about when it comes to fashion for the new season. Most notably, I mean all the joyful colours that were trending on the S/S 21 runways. Although each designer always sets about creating something as original as possible, there are often crossovers in terms of trends, and that goes for the colours, too.
I spent time analysing the collections for the coming season and saw plenty of shared colour palettes. The majority of hues are in the muted or pastel categories, such as pale yellow, baby blue, and lilac. But then, there are some bolder colours that slice across the aforementioned softer tones with a bright red and a sunset orange, all of which are ideal for summer nights. The good news is that plenty of these colours are already available to buy now, so I've offered up a selection of joyful shopping below. It's worth noting that amongst the knitwear and trousers are summer dresses that are great if you're looking for somewhere to spend your Christmas money.
A ray of sunshine is 100% what we're all in need of right now, and that is what I think of when I see this colour. Pale yellow is an easy way to give your outfit a spring boost, as seen at Altuzarra, Celine, Ferragamo, and Jil Sander.
I don't really like the idea of calling a colour "baby" anything, as this is anything but. Across Chloé, Alessandra Rich, Emilia Wickstead, and Hermès (all very much "grown-up" labels), there were pops of this hue on blouses and dresses.
To cut through the classically "pretty" colours above, there's cardinal red. If you're not into pastels, then this could be for you. (Not to mention, red is the one colour that suits everyone.) Wear it à la Chanel's suggestion in the form of a slogan jumper or as a midi dress, as seen at Emilia Wickstead.
The jury's out on whether we should call this lime green to be honest. However you define this colour, just know that it's not fully highlighter neon but not fully lime green either. It's sort of in-between. It has the brightness of neon (it's softer), but it has none of the dullness that lime green can sometimes carry. Got that? Good.
Foreign holidays seem like a distant memory right now, so inject your wardrobe with colours that remind you of sitting at a bar in Mykonos with an Aperol Spritz in hand while watching the sun go down.
The final colour that you can wear right now but that we expect to be everywhere come spring is lilac. Spotted at Chloé and Baum, there's currently a Miu Miu dress that we've got our eye on.
