I Own Over 50 Candles—These Spring Scents Are Perfect for Hosting This Season
They will make your home smell so chic.

Is anyone else frantically decluttering their home now that spring is here? I don't know what it is about the sunnier weather, but it instantly makes me want to refresh my space for the season ahead. I've been clearing out my wardrobe, wiping down every single surface in the kitchen and even washing sofa covers in the living room so that everything feels as good as new, just in time for hosting season to start. One thing I love to do when I've finished cleaning a space is light one of the best candles to make the whole room smell amazing.
As a beauty editor, I am lucky enough to be sent some of the most luxurious candles on the market, from brands such as Diptyque, Byredo and Jo Malone. That being said, I also swear by high street candles from the likes of & Other Stories and Zara. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I've tried my fair share of scents, and I now think of myself as an expert when it comes to choosing a candle for the new season.
I've been busy testing the best spring candles.
While it might be too early to start shopping for summer candles, it's definitely the right time to invest in some spring scents. Below, I've rounded up the best spring candles to shop now, from old favourites to new launches that I can't wait to burn when having guests round. If you want to take your hosting game to the next level, keep on scrolling...
11 Best Spring Candles, Chosen by a Beauty Editor
- Best floral spring candle: Diptyque Freesia
- Best fresh spring candle: Beauty Pie Clean House
- Best sweet spring candle: D.S. & Durga Dream Lychee
- Best affordable spring candle: & Other Stories Sicilian Sunrise
- Best luxury spring candle: Loewe Verbena
1. Diptyque Freesia
Key notes: Freesia, bergamot, jasmine, pepper, rosewood
Freesia flowers typically bloom in spring and summer, so this chic Diptyque candle feels very fitting for this time of year. Not only does it make a beautiful home accessory, but the uplifting fragrance will fill an entire room with its beautiful, spring-like scent. It's both fresh and floral, with notes of sweet white petals brightening up even the dullest of days.
2. Loewe Verbena
Key notes: Verbena, cedar
If you really want to treat yourself, you can't go wrong with a Loewe candle. I have some of these dotted around my house, and the scent fills the room, even when the candle is not lit. Although I love the brand's indoor scents, this spring I've got my eyes on one of the chic outdoor candles. I recently smelled this in-store and immediately knew that it would make the perfect addition to al fresco dinner parties this season. It has a sparkling citrus scent with woody undertones that add impressive depth. If you asked me to describe it in three words, I would say green, earthy and herbaceous.
3. Beauty Pie Clean House
Price shown is members' price.
Key notes: Lavender, freesia, white cotton accord, magnolia, musk
This is such a beautiful Beauty Pie candle, and while you might want to burn it all year round, it's truly the perfect spring scent. It's bright and fresh thanks to notes of freesia and white cotton accord, but it's also warm and comforting with hints of lavender and musk. It's the kind of candle you want to burn after your big spring clean, when you're finally settling down to enjoy your fresh new space.
4. D.S. & Durga Dream Lychee
Key notes: Rose water, lychee, lily, musk, sandalwood
To me, this is literally spring in a candle. It's sweet, green, vibrant and fresh, and is bound to bring uplifting energy to your home. It has that unmistakable lychee scent, but this is beautifully balanced by floral notes. A base of musk and sandalwood adds a warm, comforting edge that makes you want to fill every single room with this fragrance.
5. & Other Stories Sicilian Sunrise
Key notes: Lemon, grapefruit, jasmine, pineapple, pear, cedarwood, amber, musk
& Other Stories does a range of affordable candles that look (and smell) incredibly expensive. I have this particular scent in the candle, perfume and body wash, so I guess you could say that I'm a bit of a fan. Zesty notes of lemon and grapefruit give it this wonderfully fresh opening, but you are quickly met with hints of sweet pineapple and pear. To me, it smells like running through a field of fresh lemon trees on a warm summer's day, which is why I always have it burning in the spring and summer months.
6. Maison Margiela On a Date
Key notes: Blackcurrant liquor, rose, bergamot, patchouli
Inspired by a sunset date in the vineyards of Provence, this is the perfect candle to burn when you're having that special someone round. It's simultaneously fruity and floral, with a rich, woody undertone thanks to notes of patchouli. Yes, it smells good, but it also makes you feel good, and isn't that what any good candle should do?
7. Jo Malone London Nectarine Blossom & Honey
Key notes: Nectarine, peach, cassis, acacia honey
Jo Malone London candles are in a league of their own, and this is my chosen spring scent from the brand. As the name suggests, it contains notes of sweet, juicy nectarine that are complemented by hints of smooth acacia honey. Burning this is like biting into fresh fruit on a warm spring day, and I don't think I will ever get sick of this delicious scent.
8. Neom Happiness
Key notes: White neroli, mimosa, lemon
If you're in need of a boost this spring, let me introduce you to this candle from Neom. This stunning 3-wick design has been created to uplift and energise your home (and your mood) thanks to the awakening scent of lemon, mimosa and white neroli. It's a bright, fresh, positive fragrance, and is sure to put a spring in your step (see what I did there?)
9. Nest New York Cucumber and White Sage
Key notes: Cucumber, white sage, lavender
When I first got my hands on this candle, I wasn't sure if it would be up my street. I've never had a cucumber scent before, so I didn't know what to expect, but now I'm completely hooked. It reminds me of sipping on a sophisticated cucumber martini at an alfresco dinner party with friends. It's incredibly fresh, but not in an overwhelming kind of way. In fact, delicate notes of lavender add a soothing, somewhat calming aroma, making it the perfect candle for relaxing in your living room this spring.
10. Jo by Jo Loves
Key notes: Grapefruit, bitter orange, lime, spearmint, cedar wood, black pepper, vetiver
Fresh and zesty with a warm woody base, this is the kind of scented candle that will see you through both spring and summer. The clean citrus notes of lime and grapefruit are instant mood-boosters, while hints of black pepper and cedar wood add a rich, sophisticated touch. This candle is bound to fill your home with its powerful scent.
11. Vieve The Nova
Key notes: Neroli, vanilla, bergamot
I'm a big fan of Vieve makeup, but I had no idea that the brand did candles before discovering this. Now, I'm wondering what I ever did without it. Yep, this is easily one of the best spring (and summer) candles of all time. The vessel itself is incredibly chic, but the scent is even better. It reminds me of warm evenings spent on holiday, with a creamy, smooth, almost suncream-like scent. Yep, I will be buying this for years to come.
