16 Trends Our Editors Are Wearing in 2020
As we count down the final days of 2019, there is a lot to look forward to in the coming year, including the fashion space. While many of the trends that defined this past year may be fading away, 2020 has some amazing fashion moments in store for us. The S/S 20 runway shows may be months behind us now, but the cool trends spotted everywhere from New York to Paris will be trickling into retailers and our Instagram feeds in no time.
So which ones are our team of editors most excited about wearing? I asked team Who What Wear to weigh in. Ahead, I’m highlighting the top trends we’ll be adding into our personal wardrobes—from the shoes that will be everywhere to the brand-new way to wear suiting, and more. Go on to see the eight spring 2020 trends we’re already eyeing and shop our picks, beginning with what is on my list.
Three-Piece Suits
I spotted three-piece suits on runways everywhere from Burberry to Marc Jacobs to Louis Vuitton, which means there's a brand-new way to style suiting. The fresh take on pantsuits is exactly what I want to wear right now, and I'm predicting that waistcoats will be huge this spring.
Exposed Necklines
Gray
Lingerie-Inspired Pieces
"On the spring 2020 runways, I saw so many lingerie references, whether it was corsets, harnesses, or garters. I'm really into the idea of bringing corsets back as a go-to night-out look—think '90s Vivienne Westwood vibes. The chocolate color and witchy points on this affordable LPA version are deeply speaking to me right now."
Long Shorts
"At the Copenhagen Fashion Week spring 2020 shows, I saw a ton of long baggy shorts from brands like Ganni, Stand, and Baum und Pferdgarten. In fact, Ganni's creative director, Ditte Reffstrup, told me that it's the trend she's most excited to wear in 2020. Consider me sold."
Suiting
"I think suiting will be even bigger in 2020. A lot of celebrities have been wearing Princess Diana–esque skirt suits, but I'm personally into pantsuits, in particular, right now. This white pantsuit from Danish brand By Malene Birger is sharp and totally classic. I would go for a monochrome look and pair it with white shoes and bag. So fresh and so clean."
Inventive Knits
Tube Tops
Wallpaper Prints
Non-Black Leather
Bra Tops
"There were so many cool bralette looks on the S/S 20 runways, and while it may be a little too exposed for me, I'd definitely try it with a jacket and something high-waisted. (Shout-out to Katie Holmes and her viral cashmere bra moment earlier this year.)"
Leather Blazers
Platforms
"From Staud to Area to Tibi, platforms invaded the spring runways, and it has me convinced that they're going to be one of the biggest shoe trends for next year. As a trend-aware fashion editor, you can bet I'll be testing out the trend at the first chance I get."
Marble Print
Lightweight Leather
Loafers
