Every year, my closest friends go skiing, and although I receive an invite, I've come to realise that such a trip is simply wasted on me. I've been skiing a handful of times in my life, and although it's undoubtedly fun, I've never quite got the hang of it—at least not enough to join the rest of the group on trickier runs. However, this year I fully intended on tagging along, if only to sit in the après ski bar in my finest ski-esque apparel.
I've always had a thing for the outright '80s ski ensembles that Princess Diana wore so well, so it seems fitting to pay homage to HRH with my own array of brightly coloured separates and cosy add-ons.

PASTEL PUFFERS
No ski-inspired ensemble would be complete without a puffer jacket. Pastel shades feel suitably retro—look for details like velvet timings, belts and contrasting zips to up the '80s ante.

Nothing says cosy like a pair of mittens. My personal preference has to be Rag & Bone's knitted duo joint by string, but playful styles like COS's colour-block pair will also keep your hands warm, even when clutching an ice-cold glass of bubbly.
STIRRUP LEGGINGS
Ensure your leggings never ride up your leg and out of your boots by investing in a stirrup pair. Go all out with khaki strides or play it safe with Fusalp's navy iteration.
SNOW BOOTS
Practical boots are thankfully all the rage this season, with snow boots fast becoming the must-have style. With tractor tread soles and toasty sheepskin linings, wear them once and you'll never want to take them off.
RETRO ROLL-NECKS
Roll-necks are a must in cold weather. Retro-style slogans will give your ensemble an edge. Easy, colour-block styles will also do the trick.
KNITTED HEADBANDS
While bobble hats are a must should you intend on hitting the slopes, a chic, on-trend knitted headband will suffice if you plan on remaining chalet-bound.
