After a quick scroll through Instagram this week, it occurred to me just how many of the 2019 fashion trends I’ve been waiting to see IRL have arrived. Yep, all of those pieces I spotted on the runways so many months back and have written trends reports on are finally trickling onto the Instagram fashion scene. For me, as a fashion editor, one of the most exciting things to see is how fashion insiders wear the trends for themselves and mix them into their everyday wardrobes. It’s one thing to see a tricky trend in the context of a runway but something entirely different to see how the fashion set interprets them.
So which of the major 2019 fashion trends are bubbling up on Instagram? Ahead, I’m highlighting the pieces we’re seeing now that will continue to be huge trends over the coming months. See how the style set is wearing them, and then shop my edit.
TIE-DYE
Tie-dye is the print of 2019—fitting right in with the California-cool trend that was spotted all over the runways.
FEATHERS
I've been personally endorsing the feather trend and stocked plenty of pieces in my closet recently. I already want to start adding more.
UTILITY PANTS
Pant styles this year will be of the utility and cargo variety. Think a lot of pockets and loose fits.
HAIR CLIPS
Hair clips had a moment in 2018, but right now they're exploding on the fashion scene. There's no sign that this trend is slowing down.
NEUTRALS
While 2018 was all about bold neon colors, in 2019, we'll be seeing a lot of layered neutrals. Fill your closet with every shade of tan and ivory.
PADDED HEADBANDS
Spotted on the S/S 19 runways at shows like Prada and Alessandra Rich, padded headbands are the other hair accessory that will be everywhere this spring.
SPORT SANDALS
Meet your new favorite "ugly" shoe—the sport sandal. The functional Velcro shoes have been reimagined by designers and are already landing in the closets of fashion girls.
