3 Fashion Things French Women Say “No” To
Ever since Garance Doré’s book Love Style Life ($17) came out this fall, we’ve been a little obsessed with the tip-filled guide from one of France’s most beloved fashion personalities. Last month we sat down with Doré for a fascinating interview covering everything from how to deal with the pressure to be perfect to how NYC has changed her style. Today we’re highlighting one of our favorite sections of the book titled “The French woman says no.”
Scroll down to see the top three style things a French woman would never do.
“The French woman will only buy a trendy item if she is sure she can make it work in her wardrobe, but being too on trend is suspect, means you’re a fashion victim, and—horror!—that you want to stand out.” –Garance Doré
“You’ll rarely see a French woman in her gym clothes, unless she is actually at the gym, which is rare because she also likes to say no to going to the gym… It’s just not done… French people still really make a distinction between interior life (at home) and exterior life (outside, dressed up).” –Garance Doré
“Our mothers teach us very early on to say no to any type of clothing that doesn’t fit or flatter us… We find what works and we’re not afraid to say no to everything else.” –Garance Doré
