From some of Rihanna's and Kim Kardashian West's most iconic outfits to cementing London's best dressed It-girl scene, super stylist and creative director Avigail Collins is known in fashion circles for being the go-to when you're a celebrity looking to craft an exciting new look. She's the mastermind behind ingenious ensembles for Lorde and is the force behind some of Daisy Lowe's sassiest getups, but Avigail's wardrobing skills extend even further: See her own streetwear-inspired line, Silver Spoon Attire, for starters. Founded in 2013, alongside her husband (and fellow sought-after stylist) Damian Collins, her high-profile music clients—and a global street style following—make up a pretty impressive fan club. There is one trend I particularly love as we head into autumn: Velvet. It's been all over the catwalk, and I literally can't look at a velvet puffa jacket without wanting it immediately. In fact, it's the perfect trend: It looks good and it feels good too.
We all know pretty velvet dresses are a great choice come party season, but I'd urge you to rethink the way you shop and style this sumptuous fabric this season. Try and opt for looks that are less "night-out" and more about the daytime streetwear vibes: Think of a '90s velvet slip dress layered over a T-shirt, or a smart velvet blazer styled down with sneaks. Keep reading for four key ways to get into the velvet trend.
velvet dress
For this to work and be flattering, it works best as a slip dress—and right now, in a crushed velvet, you can't go wrong. Work with fine, layered necklaces and a slinky, strappy heel. Top tip: If slip dresses don't work for you (as you need a dress where you can wear a supportive bra and the thin straps make that impossible), style with a fitted T-shirt underneath. It will add to your look, and you can wear whatever bra you want.

velvet jacket
I'm loving a blazer at the moment, especially when I'm having a casual day but need to run to some meetings. This piece is perfect with vintage-style, raw-hemmed jeans, trainers (Cortezes are my personal favourite) and a classic T-shirt. If you want to go an experimental step further, try layering an oversize menswear-inspired dress shirt instead of a crew-neck.

Tailored, high waisted and in deep, dark tones—that's how I like my velvet trousers. I love these with a simple tee tucked in or with a white shirt that has big cuffs.

velvet shoes
These go great with most items, but they're not to be worn together with velvet clothes—that's a little too matchy for my liking, and you may as well make a statement with them. I like seeing velvet shoes with a silky evening gown or a smart suit, however, they're just as good with your casual denim looks and will definitely take you from day to night.
