UK Girls Won't Go Near These Fall Trends
Who What Wear UK’s editorial director, Hannah Almassi, taps into everything that is cool about British-girl style. Rooted in classic silhouettes and buzzy designers like Rixo and Ganni, her outfits are also fun. Her taste is experimental, and she’s certainly not afraid of bold prints and colors or trend-forward pieces like feather-embellished pants or ’80s-inspired shapes. Like I said, she epitomizes It-Brit style.
Of course, with her daring attitude when it comes to fashion, where does she draw the line on trends for the fall season ahead? To find out, well, I asked her! Ahead, Hannah Almassi is breaking down the trends she won’t touch for the fall season and highlighting some of the big trends that she’s already wearing on the streets of London. Go on to see her looks and shop all of the pieces from her inspiring outfits.
Skipping… Puffball Skirts
Wearing… ’80s-Inspired Party Dresses
“A brave brand was bound to bring back this cheeky skirt silhouette,” Hannah tells us, “but as much as I adore Miu Miu, I think girls are more inclined at this stage to take on ’80s cocktail dresses for party season instead.”
“The whole super-glitzy thing is set to infiltrate the high street ahead of Christmas, and I won’t be surprised to see crystals, strong shoulders, lamé, and more coming to a pub near me,” she says. “I predict many pretty, bow-fronted, satin, jewel-encrusted shoes will be purchased this season.”

Skipping… Sci-Fi Sunglasses
Wearing… Yellow-Lens Sunnies
“Do these feel like they’re strictly for celebs in hot locations like the Burning Man desert? Kind of, yes,” Hannah muses. “Instead, I think the more retro and more flattering yellow lenses will continue to rule, worn with anything from super-minimalist suiting to the full ’70s all-in-brown ensembles we are seeing on Instagram via that Chloé-girl aesthetic.”

Skipping… Fleeces
Wearing… Chunky Knits
“What is it with the influx of expensive/not necessarily technical all-terrain gear?” she asks. “Brits do love knitwear, though, especially as a replacement for coats or jackets, so I predict a wave of cozy, oversize, probably rollneck sweaters being chucked on over slinky skirts and cropped jeans. Ganni’s statement-sleeve jumpers have definitely kick-started a desire here for fluffy knits in pretty pastel colors.”

Skipping… Hiking Boots
Wearing… Dr. Martens
"Perhaps it’s because Brit girls like practical things to stay practical and not encroach on fashion territory (or vice versa), but the chunky flat boot trend is going strong on a different form,” Hannah explains.
"I’ve spotted countless girls wearing thick-soled Dr. Martens boots instead and I’m surprised, as a high heel aficionado, that I really want a pair. They are so Camden circa 1991 when you would have worn them with a floral dress or slip skirt: it’s the exact same formulas that work now only with less messy hair and a cute mini bag." —Hannah Almassi
