The clocks officially turned back last weekend, and there's something about the cold weather that makes me want to switch up my style and go for a fresh hair look. And nothing says fresh like chopping off your ends and going for a shorter cut. It's no secret that short hair has grown in popularity over the last year or two, with the likes of Hailey Bieber and Zendaya convincing everyone to get a bob hairstyle, but what's in store for the season ahead?
As someone who likes to be ahead of the trends, I decided to reach out to Emma Vickery, creative director at Percy & Reed, to find out what short hairstyles and haircuts we can expect to see everywhere, as well as doing my own research into trending terms and celeb-approved styles. Vickery shared all of her insider info, including tips and tricks on how to wear your new look. Whether you like chic, simple styles or something a bit more edgy, there's something for everyone. 7 Short-Hair Trends That Are Dominating in 2024 (So Far)
1. Structured Bob
Yep that's right, the bob haircut isn't going anywhere for the rest of the year. "The bob era is back," says Vickery. "We’ve seen much more fluid shapes over the past couple of years, but I think it’s time for more structured shapes to return."
I personally love a structured bob, as I think it looks super chic. It's all sharp edges and blunt fringes.
It looks great with straight hair too.

2. Grungecore
"In addition to the bob hairstyle, the grungecore trend was a big hit this season," says Vickery. We can expect to see this a lot more in the second half of the year, but according to Vickery, the grungy haircuts will feature stronger outlines.
These grungy hairstyles are perfect for those who like a bit more of an "undone" look. They're a lot more low-maintenance than other short hairstyles as you can have so much fun when it comes to texture and styling.
As you can see, a fringe is a great addition to a "grungecore" bob.

3. Slicked-Back Bob
Forget the slicked-back bun—the rest of 2024 is all about the slicked-back bob. I've been seeing this style everywhere as of late, and I have no doubt that it'll remain in fashion for the foreseeable future.
"This bob can be styled with a firm gel and a comb to create that slick look," explains Vickery.

4. Lived-in Layers

"People want the ability to be low-maintenance and versatile when styling to suit the busy lifestyle that they lead."

5. Beach Bob
Celebrity hairstylist and BaByliss ambassador Syd Hayes predicts that the "beach bob" will be everywhere by winter.
Think undone beach waves with a little bit of salt spray throughout the ends.

6. Pixie
Ok, so I might not be a hair expert, but I do like to think of myself as an expert when it comes to spotting beauty trends. One short hair trend that I've been seeing everywhere as of late is the classic pixie cut.
This short hairstyle is so chic, and you can have lots of fun with your accessories.

A style I've noticed picking up on Google Trends is a layered bob with a fringe. I've also been spotting this haircut on celebs such as Lily Allen, and it's safe to say that I'm a little bit obsessed.
The combination of layers and a statement fringe adds so much dimension to this short hairstyle.
