Are These Saint Laurent Heels the Next It Shoes?
Net-a-Porter has hailed tie-up flats and heels as “fashion’s favourite shoes”. That’s praise indeed considering that there are some other serious contenders for that ubiquitous title like the soft round-toe low-heels, the Gucci Princetown slipper, and the controversial babouche so beloved of peacocks on the street style circuit. Emboldened by our friends at NAP, we predict that Saint Laurent’s Babies sandals will be one of the key It shoes to look out for on the up-and-coming A/W 16 FROW. The Babies sandals take the lace-up look to great new levels of cool with a boxy heel, tomboyish edge and sexy peek-a-boo network of leather laces. They'll surely be a firm favourite amongst our favourite editors, stylists and bloggers because they are so wearable.
After all, the fashion elite has been getting all wrapped for months now, and we’re not talking about cosy cover-ups. One look at the street style blogs and you’ll see lattice-whipped shoes galore; it’s the look that’s so captured fashion’s subconscious. Long may it continue.
Scroll down to see how the lace-up look has been styled by some of the best dressed women, and, if you’re inspired, shop the Babies below!
Style Notes: Always look to the Italian It girls for a future-proof idea on what's cool. We're taking our cues from Diletta Bonaiuti that lace-up suede is the way to go.
On Diletta Bonauiti: Céline Two-Tone Wayfarer Sunglasses (£215); Isabel Marant top.
Style Notes: Lace-up flats were the key shoes on the S/S 16 street style scene and have opened up a space for an upgraded look in a similar vein…
On Giovanna Battaglia: Céline top; Aquazzura Christy Lace-Up Flats (£415).
Style Notes: For a barely there shoe with versatility and inbuilt chic, the Aquazzura Christy is your go-to shoe.
On Veronika Heilbrunner: Chloé dress, and coat; Aquazzura Christy Lace-Up Flats (£455) available in white.

Style Notes: Taking the lace-up theme and whipping it into a new level of eccentricity, Gucci's leather boots are a world of fun for springtime outfits.
On Christine Centenera: Gucci Leather Lace-Up Boots (£1130).
Style Notes: The Supremes have already secured themselves on the FROW thanks to the Gucci appeal and lacey look. Come spring, leave the tights at home and wear these boots with your spring dresses.
Wear: Gucci Supreme Lace-Up Boots (£1230).
If you're allergic to pom poms, then you'll be an ideal candidate for the Babies sandals…
