The 4 New Trends That You Can Already Shop Right Now

Fashion week might only happen twice a year, with designers presenting their autumn/winter and spring/summer collections, but in between these months are constant new drops thanks to "pre" and "resort" collections. This month, we see the arrival of Pre-Fall 19 pieces, which in many ways are designed for our country's interchangeable climate. You'll find trench coats and knitwear alongside sandals and end-of-summer floral dresses.

This never-ending cycle of new drops can be hard to keep up with. However, the pieces arriving are an indication of the trends that will dominate throughout winter, and this year, there are four trends in particular that you'll see across the pre-fall collections. Leather is set to be one of the headlining trends for the cooler months of 2019, and right now, you'll find lots of leather belted trench coats from the likes of Rejina Pyo, Loewe and Joseph. These trenches come in rich butter, tan, raspberry and chocolate colours rather than black.

The pre-fall collections have a real back-to-school feeling, with pleated midi skirts and heritage boarding school–inspired checks appearing again. As for accessories, Net-a-Porter is betting the lead shoe trend for 2019 will be square-toe shoes, and the likes of Bottega Veneta and Wandler have incorporated this silhouette into their pre-fall collections. 1. Leather Trench Coats

Leather is poised to become more and more popular in 2019, as this is one of the key trends for autumn and winter. Just ask Elizabeth von der Goltz, global buying director at Net-a-Porter: "Leather has become a key player in our wardrobes; it's now much more accessibly priced, and the breadth of styles means we can wear it all year long." The leather trench coat is going to be one of the most in-demand items, and we're lusting after Rejina Pyo's cream vinyl trench and the Loewe chocolate-coloured collarless coat.

2. Pleated Skirts

Pleated skirts have had a frumpy rep, but that is all about to change thanks to designers like A.W.A.K.E. Mode and Christopher Kane, who have given them a starring role in their pre-fall collections. Chris Kane created pleated skirts in paint-box brights and bold polka-dot prints, pairing them with crystal-encrusted accessories to make them real party showpieces.

3. Square-Toe Shoes

If you want to know what is going to be hugely popular in autumn 2019, just look to Bottega Veneta. This is the buyers' brand of the year and is already making square-toe shoes a monster success.

4. Check Print

Heritage check prints come around every single autumn, and this season, brands like Burberry and Chloé are creating suits and more in plaid prints.
