We're only 11 days into the New Year, but shoppers have already been exhibiting some strong inclinations towards 2017 trends. According to new data from Lyst, there's one unexpected trend that's blowing up right now: quirky, extra-colourful bags. For instance, Lyst reports that Loewe's Elephant Bag (£875) has seen a whopping 300% increase in searches and a 128% increase in sales since January 1, compared to the brand's averages. Do we sense an It bag in the making?

Another bag that has been popular since the New Year is Anya Hindmarch's Loose Pocket Pouch (£195), which has seen a 222% increase in searches and an 80% increase in sales. Featuring playful googly eyes, the cute clutch is the perfect outside-the-box accessory. A rainbow crossbody bag and a punchy beach tote round out Lyst's selection of hot items of 2017.
