Fashion People Are Still Losing It Over Frankie Shop's Cult Trousers

If there's one product category that's defined last year's aesthetic, I would say it has to be tailoring, and 2023 is continuing the love affair. Editors, influencers and celebrities have been wearing everything from oversized blazers to wide-leg trousers on rotation, enjoying the novelty of sharper pieces once more. To bolster this idea, I have it on good authority that tailoring has been a best seller for many of the brands we work closely with, and all signs indicate that you, our readers, can't get enough of it, either.
Emma Rose styles The Frankie Shop’s cargo trouser with black leather slides and a vest top.
This understanding of just how in-demand tailoring is right now made me do a double-take when I saw a chic waistcoat-and-trouser set in Net-a-Porter's new-arrivals section. When clicking through, I realised the waistcoat—in the sleekest shade of olive green and with a distinctive asymmetric fastening—was from The Frankie Shop, a brand our regular readers will know that Who What Wear has a soft spot for.
With its pared-back designs and minimalistic silhouettes, French label The Frankie Shop has become a Who What Wear go-to for elevated basics. It's also a brand I wear as much as my bank balance affords me to. The brand has a track record of pieces that sell out at lightning speed, so I knew this waistcoat wouldn't hang around for long. I added it to my Net-a-Porter wish list and then went to add the matching trousers to it, too. That's when I realised they're not just trousers—they're cargo trousers. And they're the glossiest pair of cargo trousers I've ever seen at that.
Caroline styles The Frankie Shop’s tailored vest with linen trousers and chunky flip flops.
Ever since I spotted the set online, I've noticed a fresh crop of influencers snapping it up for themselves, too. A hit last last season, I just know it's only a matter of time before this two-piece sells out; most likely by Fashion Week as everyone will no doubt want to wear it for their FROW appearances.
There's still time, though. Scroll on to see and shop the set for yourself in all three colourways (the OG olive, beige and black). Then continue on to shop other pieces I love from The Frankie Shop's new collection.
