Move Over, Black Tights—Everyone Is Opting for This Richer-Looking Color Instead

I’ve been very into tights the past couple of winters. Even as someone who doesn’t usually wear skirts or tights, I love the look of sheer pantyhose peeping out from under jeans and trousers. Last year, I played around with pops of red, but this fall, I stuck to brown and black. Wool tights (especially in a very Prada-coded gray) are also on my radar after seeing chic women in Paris dialling into them this season. And I’ll admit, I’ve even come around to the more controversial long-shorts–and-tights combo this winter.
Speaking of tights trends popping up this winter, burgundy tights are currently all over my feed. Maybe it's not a huge surprise, given 2024’s infatuation with the color trend. I love that it's an easy and affordable shortcut to making even your laziest outfit feel intentional and on-trend. From fashion influencers to celebrities like Kendall Jenner (who was ahead of the curve last February at a Grammy's after-party in Los Angeles), here’s how we’ve been spotting fashion people wearing this buzzy tights trend.
Burgundy looks so good with navy blue, as they are two rich-looking colors that give private-school-uniform energy. Mixing in a little black doesn't make it weird in the slightest. Note Sara Walker's go-to black accessories above, and don't give it a second thought.
I'm treating you to two pics of Megan Ellaby's look because I don't want you to miss the styling of her socks over tights. Just like her clashing snake-print tote and loafers, sometimes something that seems a bit wrong just works.
I would be wrong not to mention that there's something about burgundy tights that feel festive and perfect for the holidays, especially brighter cherry hues (which pair so well with gray).
This all-black look is 10 times more interesting thanks to Salome Mory's accessorizing, by way of luxe burgundy tights and metallic clutch.
Mimi Nguyen really isn't letting New York's winter temperatures cramp her style. Even a long puffer feels chic in burgundy, and her tonal tights add an extra layer of cool.
