I'm a Senior Shopping Editor—5 Basics I'm Not Wearing Anymore and 5 I Love That Are Part of Amazon's Latest Prime Day Sale

Lately, I have been taking inventory of my closet, especially my collection of basics, to check what might need an update. Basics are the backbone of my outfit rotations, so they are always top of mind. At the beginning of a new season, I decide what to store (or even sell and donate), and then I make room for fresh additions with a focus on what is currently trending. With the Amazon Prime Big Deal Days now in full swing until tomorrow, October 8, I am taking advantage of all the great fashion discounts and updating the basics in question.
For this closet clean-out, I plan to incorporate of-the-moment basics to elevate my fall outfits and beyond. Think simple socks, classic leggings (the more fitted the better), cool outerwear, and more. Below, check out five basics that I'm not reaching for as often and the sale picks from Amazon's October Prime Day I am swapping them out for this season.
Store: No-Show Socks
Swap For: Crew Socks
Having your socks show is the styling preference of the fashion set when wearing everything from sneakers to clogs. I 100% blame it on the resurgence of Princess Diana–inspired style.
Store: Midi Skirts
Swap For: Maxi Skirts
There is something so chic about long skirts. The maxi style gives me '90s-era vibes that bring Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and other icons to mind.
Store: Flared Leggings
Swap For: Fitted Leggings
Regardless of the current legging trends, I have been living in fitted leggings for years now during both my on- and off-duty moments. The ease they provide in getting dressed is unmatched.
Store: High Heels
Swap For: Kitten Heels
Kitten-heel shoes, especially in black, instantly elevate just about any outfit. Flip-flop, mule, and boot styles reign supreme at the moment and go with everything from jeans to skirts.
Store: Moto Jackets
Swap For: Bomber Jackets
Moto jackets will always be a classic closet staple, but this season, the bomber styles are out to play. I prefer them in black and brown to wear layered over jeans and dresses.
