The Elegant Flat-Shoe Trend Scandi and French Women Are Wearing Instead of Sandals
The flat mule trend was overlooked for so long—now it's everywhere. Scroll and see my favourite pairs for summer 2025.

As a fashion editor, few things pique my interest as much as the whisper of a new shoe trend. So, when I spotted the flat mule style that's stealing hearts all around the major European fashion cities, I just had to tell you about it.
Up there with ballet flats and Mary Janes, the flat mule shoe trend is set to become one of the season's biggest. With a refined silhouette that covers the toes before tapering away to reveal a barefoot, the trending shoe combines the elegance of a ballet flat with the relaxed energy of slip-on sandals.
Asserting itself as a favourite within fashion people's wardrobes, this souped-up slipper has become a go-to for elegant summer styling. These closed-toe shoes are enjoying their time in the sun. Featuring heavily on the S/S 24 runways, flat mules were seen on the Altuzarra, Carven, and Eudon Choi shows, amongst others. Styled with dresses, skirts, trousers, and shorts, these shows made the case for the blossoming shoe trend. I've also noticed flat mules gracing the feet of French and Scandi fashion people, too, meaning it's only a matter of time before it takes off on British soil.
Fashion influencer Anouk Yve wears the Flattered Malva Suede Black shoes.
Having already transcended the runways this spring, the trending shoe style is now available at so many of my favorite high-street and designer brands. From H&M's event-ready pair to Manolo Blahnik's supremely chic style, read on to discover the flat mules we're eyeing right now.

I would style these with my favourite pair of Agolde low-rise baggy jeans, a crisp white tank and suede cropped jacket.
A favourite of the fashion person, both Sylvie Mus and Anouk Yve have and love this pair.
Known for their contemporary take on the chain loafer, JW Anderson delivers a fresh update with this reimagined canvas mule. Lightweight yet statement-making, style it with H&M’s relaxed linen trousers and a matching linen top for an easy, breathable look tailor-made for warm weather days.
These mules are the perfect footwear to complete your summer outfit styling.
Topshop is back! And this pair of woven flat shoes look far more expensive than its affordable price tag.
