As an American, I'm usually surrounded by people in hoodies, sweatpants, and even their pajamas during my travels. I've made some rare exceptions for long-haul flights, but I love to dress comfortably yet chic on the plane, no matter what. During my recent trip abroad, I was very happy to be surrounded by travelers who could inspire me. Comfort is key, and it's totally achievable while still appearing polished and elevated. Sometimes, the most obvious decisions are the best. A classic tank top and denim might feel boring, but when you select the best of the best, you're bound to be happy with your final look. Add classic jewelry and you're winning.
Elegant Monochromatic Look
Even if you own no matching sets, you're bound to be able to create a cohesive look that appears to have been designed to be worn together when you put together a monochromatic look. This top-and-skirt moment is a total vibe.
Blazer + Poplin Skirt
For a more dressed-up trip (like if I was lucky enough to be taking a train from Paris to London), you're likely to find me in a poplin skirt and blazer. In summer, swap the blazer for a tank top, and you're good to go. Bonus points for adding a pop of color in the footwear.
Button-Down Shirt + Cigarette Pants
When I'm preparing for a trip, there's nothing I love more than wearing pieces that I can style again and again for the days to follow. A button-down like this can be thrown over any and everything, and you're bound to get multiple uses out of these pants as well.
Bermuda Shorts + Cashmere Sweater + Loafers
Bermuda shorts are much more comfortable for travel than micro styles and feel far more elevated. Pair them with a cashmere sweater that you can take on and off when the AC gets too heavy en route.
Knit Tank Top + Maxi Skirt
Last but not least, here's a no-fail option that will never disappoint you. Try styling a tank top with a silk maxi skirt. You'll always enter the plane, train, or automobile in style when you wear this.
