The 2022 Anti-Trend Pieces I'm Ditching for Their 2023 Replacements

I am in the midst of updating my closet this season, which just so happens to be filled with a plethora of anti-trend pieces. With my serious dedication to classic style, I can’t help but reach for effortless options each season that can (for the most part) stand the test of time. My goal is always to put together a set of key staples that I know I will wear over and over again. Even so, it feels like it’s time to store, sell, or donate, some old staples to make room for fresh additions.
In most of these cases, I am looking to make the simplest of updates. For instance, I have been a huge fan of the boxy oversize blazer for some time now, but lately, I am craving a more tailored blazer that cinches in right at the waist. In the skirt department, I am taking a break from midi lengths to wear ankle-grazing maxi styles inspired by ’90s throwbacks. Keep scrolling to check out four anti-trend favorites that have served me well and what I am swapping them out for this season.
Store: Basic Lug-Sole Boots
Swap For: Moto Boots
This year, I see myself living in a great pair of moto boots with harness details thanks to spotting fashion muses like Pernille Teisbaek in the style.
Store: Boxy Oversize Blazers
Swap For: Cinched-Waist Blazers
When it comes to blazers, I have my sights set on a cinched-waist style like Rose's above. The tailored look feels super elevated and polished.
Store: Slim Straight-Leg Jeans
Swap For: Relaxed Jeans
Relaxed jeans are at the forefront of denim trends at the moment. The roomy style lends a casual-cool feel to any outfit.
Store: Midi Skirts
Swap For: Maxi Skirts
In the spirit of my ongoing love for classic '90s style, I couldn't pass up the latest selections of stylish maxi skirts. My go-to pick is always black.
