Every Who What Wear Editor Swears By This "Unsexy" Skincare Product for Banishing Breakouts
Struggling with unwanted breakouts? We've all been there. After years of testing out the best breakout remedies, this antimicrobial face mist is my secret for keeping spots at bay.

If you’re prone to acne and are breaking out right now, just know that you are not alone. Whether a result of the sudden change in weather, the constant switching between office air conditioning and central heating or simply the effect of daily dirt and grime (or a combination of all the above), there's no denying that this time of year tends to play havoc with our skin. And the result? Unwanted breakouts.
Over the past few months, I've found myself plagued with a constellation of blemishes popping up at will and staking their claim on my complexion. And, while of course, these breakouts are completely normal, getting my skin back to its best has been high on my priority list.
As a result, I've reached for nearly every blemish-busting beauty product in my extensive collection — I've tried spot patches and drying treatments, cleansers and serums. If a product promises to combat breakouts, you better believe I've had my hands (or my face) on it. Yet, while these products helped to treat existing breakouts, I had yet to find one that actually prevented breakouts before they appeared.
That was until I picked up a bottle of Clinisoothe+ Skin Purifier after I saw a number of my favourite skin experts recommending it on social media, and now not only will I never look back, but a whole bunch of Who What Wear UK editors have been sold on it, too. (Managing director, Hannah Almassi, swears by it for preventing post-workout breakouts, and managing editor, Poppy Nash, uses it every single day.)
What Is Clinisoothe+ Skin Purifier?
First and foremost, Clinisoothe+ Skin Purifier is a hypochlorous facial mist that offers antimicrobial protection. This essentially means it kills off all of the bad bacteria that breed on our skin, preventing breakouts before they appear.
You've most likely seen these sprays going viral on TikTok in recent months, with people spritzing them as they sit on aeroplanes or walk around the supermarket. Yet where Clinisoothe+'s formula differs is that, while many solutions that work to banish bacteria in this way are incredibly harsh on the skin, Clinisoothe+ is specially formulated with sensitive skin in mind. That means you'll find no alcohol, so as not to cause unwanted dryness, as well as a neutral pH, to keep skin calm and balanced.
To apply, you simply spritz it onto the skin after cleansing morning and night. Then, go about your business without fear of breakout-inducing bacteria sitting on the skin. It really is as easy as that. I use it before I head to the office, after going to the gym, as well as anytime I plan to get on the London tube to help keep my complexion in check.
"Clinisoothe+ is a product I recommend to almost everyone," says skin health expert and celebrity facialist, Pamela Marshall, when I spoke to her about the mist. "Every day, we are assaulted with environmental factors, and our skin bears the brunt of it. Clinisoothe is that superhero product that keeps the skin calm in a crazy world."
"I recommend using it after you cleanse, both morning and night," she continues. "Let it sit for about 30 seconds and then move on to your next step in your routine. It's also great to use post-workout, if you can't cleanse your skin right away. I recommend that my clients spray the inside of their hats during the wintertime to keep them clean, as hats are notorious for causing acne spots. For me, it's a little miracle product."
Sure, this mist doesn’t come with any of the self-care, mind-calming benefits of normal face mists, but trust me when I say this stuff works when it comes to combating breakouts—and that's why I'll never be caught without it.

Persistent blemishes can leave skin feeling sore and irritated, so it’s important to opt for gentle, non-irritating cleansers like this one.
Keep skin hydrated and soothed with this lightweight moisturiser, but know that salicylic acid is working its magic to help reduce the risk of breakouts.
Not only does this super-powerful vitamin C serum help defend against premature signs of ageing, but it also contains salicylic acid, making it perfect for breakout-prone skin.
Apply this toner solution to a cotton pad and swipe all over the face after cleansing in the evening. It will help to decongest and gradually work against breakouts and blackheads.
