For instance, volumizing formulas typically feature dense, fluffy spoolies to really pack on the pigment, while lengthening products tend to have slimmer, cone-shaped wands to saturate every last lash from root to tip. Mascaras with lash-separating benefits will likely have evenly spaced, comb-like bristles to ensure a clump-free application.
- Shade: Inky black may be the most common, but plenty of mascaras also come in brown, blue, and other playful colors to consider.

How We Tested
We took several weeks to come up with our final list of best mascaras. First, we consulted our very own staffers and editors (because we happen to think we have damn fine taste when it comes to all things beauty) to come up with our own "best" list.
Next, we studied every last review and rating across major online beauty retailers to see which formulas showed up the most and seemed to be the most satisfactorily rated among beauty shoppers (like you) as well.
