7 Autumn Jacket Styles You're About to See All Over Instagram
PSA: The best autumn jackets have just landed. Scroll down to discover the seven styles that have made my list.

Imani-Nia Francis-Tsolaki
We've nearly reached the end of summer, which can only mean one thing: it's time to start thinking about jackets. You can keep your spiced matcha lattes and your opaque tights for now; I’m not quite ready for full-on cold-weather mode, but jackets are easily my favourite thing about the transitional period we’re about to head into.
Whilst I already have a few trusty styles to hand that I pull out every year, it's been a while since I treated myself to a new jacket, so right now, I'm officially in the market for some on-trend outerwear. This, however, isn't a purchase I'll make lightly. This jacket will have to carry me through seasons (and years) to come and go with everything I already own to make it worthwhile and justifiable. I'm not asking for much, right?
Finding such a jacket requires extensive research, i.e.browsing the new-in sections of my favourite brands daily as they drop their pre-autumn collections. Needless to say, I take shopping very seriously (it is my job, after all!), and it was during my most recent research hour that I noticed that seven types of jackets kept cropping up.
From truly classic styles making a comeback to small updates that make a big difference, I have a feeling that the autumn jackets you'll find below are going to define the season ahead. With something to suit all aesthetics, scroll on to see seven trending autumn jackets for 2025, and shop my edit of the best of each style.
7 Autumn 2025 Jacket Trends I Need You to Know About:
1. Barn Jackets
Style Notes: An offshoot from the '90s, the barn jacket has been slowly making its way back into the fashion spotlight. Loved for its countryside practicality paired with a sleek, old-money feel, transitional functionality and everyday wearability, it’s no wonder classic styles like the Barbour Beadnell went viral last autumn. So, if you invested last year, you're in luck, because they’re gaining even more traction this season. And if, like me, you missed the mark entirely, don’t fret; a new wave of chic cropped and longline styles has just hit shops.
Shop Barn Jackets:
Trust Reformation to deliver one of the chicest iterations of the trend.
This off-white colourway looks so elevated black capris.
Dôen is my go-to for dreamy, boho-inspired wardrobe additions, so it's no wonder this vintage-style jacket caught my eye.
Are there any basics The Row doesn't exceptionally elevate?
Whistles knows a thing or two about creating a great jacket.
2. Suede Jackets
Style Notes: With modern bohemia trending (thank you, Chemena Kamali!), suede jackets have quickly risen to hero-piece status. Adding both visual interest and a polished finish, they’re one of the easiest ways to make any outfit feel instantly current. With so many sophisticated cuts available, it's not surprising that they’ve officially earned a spot on my list of best autumn jackets.
Shop Suede Jackets:
This looks far more expensive than it is, so if you like it, I'd be quick; Marks and Spencer styles sell out fast.
The same can be said for expensive-looking H&M buys!
It may be best known for its whimsical summer pieces, but don't sleep on Free People this autumn. With a barn silhouette in a lush suede-style material, this jacket ticks off two trends in one.
I saw this jacket in Copenhagen Fashion Week street style photography, and I can attest that it's as good as it looks.
3. Cropped Trenches
Style Notes: Year after year, we pull out our classic trench coats when the weather turns cool, but in the last few years, the cropped trench has surged in popularity. With & Other Stories and M&S providing silhouettes that sold out within days earlier this year, and Damson Madder's cropped trench flying within seconds recently, it's pretty safe to say that we’re buying what they’re selling. Offering the same sleek finish as its longer counterpart, the cropped version has added appeal: it keeps you warm whilst letting you show off the rest of your outfit. And when so much careful consideration goes into every look, who doesn’t love that?
Shop Cropped Trenches:
\If you're looking to invest in a great trench coat, go for Burberry.
4. Leather Jackets
Style Notes: We’ve seen suede, but don’t overlook the classic leather jacket. With its polished finish and timeless appeal, it’s the go-to for the coolest fashion people on my feed (including Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner) as soon as the temperature drops. From oversized silhouettes to boxy cuts like Marianne Smyth's (pictured above), a leather jacket is the perfect addition to any capsule wardrobe.
Shop Leather Jackets:
I personally love wearing my leather with jeans and loafers.
Renowned for its use of vegan leather, Sisters and Seekers' leather jackets are a Gen Z favourite.
5. Bouclé Jackets
Style Notes: If you're a fan of French fashion, or Clueless, for that matter, a bouclé jacket is probably on your autumn wish list. The woven texture instantly adds sophistication to any outfit. Right now, I’m seeing stylish types wearing it with low-slung jeans or matching miniskirts, but it adds a polish to just about every bottoms option on the market.
Shop Bouclé Jackets:
6. Denim Jackets
Style Notes: A denim jacket is a staple often found in the best capsule wardrobes. Relaxed yet reliable, it’s a true transitional piece that works across seasons. Whether paired with denim-on-denim ensembles, layered over lace dresses or thrown on with jeans and flip-flops (as seen on Hollie Mercedes at Copenhagen Fashion Week, above), this jacket brings a casual edge to any outfit, which is a must for the best autumn jackets, in my opinion.
Shop Denim Jackets:
7. Relaxed Blazers
Style Notes: Blazers are pure gold when colder weather hits. This is a jacket that rises to every occasion; whether thrown over loungewear for casual coffee dates or paired with dresses for evenings out. Its refined feel elevates any look, making it a versatile piece that anyone can make their own.
Shop Relaxed Blazers:
